Stoney Creek Cowboy Church

The Stoney Creek Cowboy Church has been meeting at the Rotary Club building on the Nashville—Red Oak Road on Monday nights for about 15 months.  The cowboy church has a very committed core group of about 15 people that have a desire to minister and share the gospel with people that identify with the cowboy culture and would not respond to the ministry of a traditional church.  Thus far 3 people have trusted Christ in about 18 association churches VBS programs that used the Saddle Ridge LifeWay materials this past summer.

Several association churches have made a commitment to provide monthly financial support  for this new work.  They are First Baptist, Rocky Mount, Sunset Avenue, Proctors Chapel and Macedonia.   The Cowboy Church pastor is Dr. Keith Griffin.  He is also currently serving as pastor of Edgemont Church.  Edgemont is also providing the use of its office  equipment and supplies for Stoney Creek Cowboy Church and taking up a love offering for this ministry.  Pastor Griffin will be serving a two-church field as part-time pastor of Edgemont Church and the Stoney Creek Cowboy Church.

The Missions Development Council will be making the motion that the association also provide monthly support along with Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.  It is the goal of the Stoney Creek Cowboy Church to be able to fully support a part-time pastor in two years.

From Recent Reports

April 2011 - SCCC participated in two major events in April.  On April 2 in Jimmy Dozier's Plow Day in Rocky Mount where over 500 brochures were handed out and over 75 contact names were in a prize drawing at our booth.  As a result we had 3 new visitors attend.  On April 29-30 we participated in the Nash Autism trail ride in Halifax County, again 100 brochures were handed out and we had direct contact with autistic families and discussion with several families interested in SCCC.

May 2011 - There was the Brinkleyville Autism Trail Ride with over 450 riders which provided an opportunity to share the ministry of SCCC through servant evangelism and interaction with many lost individuals.  16 attended a Cowboy church service with 1 profession of faith.  Uhwarrie Trail Ride - Cowboys for Christ event with 13 individuals from our ministry area.  It was a wonderful discipleship opportunity with 1 profession of faith by an individual who has attended churce for about 4 months.

June 2011 Prayer Concerns - Please pray for the new believers at Stoney Creek Cowboy Church.  Many have come from extremely rough backgrounds and are seeking to break the strong grip of their sinful past.  Pray that our new believers' class will be helpful in grounding them in their decision to follow Christ without reservation.
