Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Pregnancy Care Center?

  • The PCC is an extension of local churches in the community to provide alternatives to abortion to any woman experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.
  • The PCC is a grassroots ministry designed to assist a woman and significant others in her life in the challenge of an unplanned pregnancy. We provide her with accurate information, emotional and material support to enable her to carry her baby to term.
  • The PCC is a pro-life organization supported by local churches, businesses, and individuals.   It exists to provide alternatives to abortion.
  • Because we are pro-life, we believe it is necessary to be actively involved in providing women-in-need with accurate information about abortion (risks and methods) and services to enable her to carry her baby to term.

2. What about your counselors? What qualifies them to counsel women in unplanned pregnancies?

  • Each volunteer takes a basic training seminar and then receives on-the-job training prior to counseling women. A volunteer will also receive ongoing in-service training.
  • The volunteers have a deep sense of compassion for women in an unplanned pregnancy.
  • The backgrounds of our volunteers are from a broad spectrum of professions including, RN, homemakers, teachers and other helping professions.
  • All our counselors are evangelical Christians. As Christians, we are here to extend compassion and practical assistance for women in an unplanned pregnancy.
  • The volunteers are here because they are pro-life and desire to provide positive alternatives to abortion. They care about both the woman and her baby.
  • The counseling we provide is not intended as a substitute for professional counseling; we maintain a list of professional services for referrals.

3. How did the PCC begin?

  • Our Center began in 1989 by a group of local pro-life Christians who felt that it was imperative to give women in an unplanned pregnancy accurate information on fetal development, abortion risks and life affirming options.  We believe if you are truly pro-life, you need to help women in an unplanned pregnancy know they do not have to have an abortion and she has support in choosing life.

4. Are you affiliated with any other organization? Any anti-abortion groups?

  • We are affiliated with CareNet which is a nation-wide pro-life, Christian organization; and we are governed by a local board of directors.
  • We receive materials, training, and education from CareNet. Our desire is to reach out to women and significant others experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.  We are locally funded and supported by churches, individuals, and businesses within our community

5. Why was your organization started? What is your purpose?

  • To provide alternatives to abortion.
  • We believe women have a right (choice) to carry a baby to term, and the PCC ensures they will have that opportunity.
  • Our purpose is to enable a woman to choose life and carry her baby to term.
  • People who call themselves "pro-choice" offer only one choice: abortion. We believe that a woman is not really free to choose unless someone is willing to help her carry to term.
  • We offer constructive alternatives to abortion and education on abortion about possible risks both physically and emotionally.
  • It is not unusual to hear a woman who is considering aborting her baby say, "I'd love to have this baby but..." What she is saying is if she were really free to choose she would carry to term. We exist to make that choice possible.
  • The PCC was started by residents of this community who recognized that the only choice being offered to a woman was abortion.
